Student Counseling Center
1800 Volunteer Blvd.
Knoxville, TN 37996-4250
Accessing any of our services begins with brief consultation (or “triage”) session with a counselor to help you get started and/or figure out which services are most suitable. Please review this sheet prior to contacting us or coming by the Center, so that we can arrange the appropriate type of service and appointment. You can call to arrange a meeting or come by at your convenience. The first visit is typically about 20 minutes but students must complete some background and registration paperwork beforehand, so please be sure to arrive at least 20 minutes early. If you need a parking pass, you’ll want to allow time for that as well. Once you arrive at the Student Counseling Center, you will check in with the reception staff. You will then be asked to complete our initial paperwork (this takes most folks about 20 minutes). After you have completed the paperwork, you will see a therapist. He or she will meet with you to aid you with any immediate concerns and help you decide what you need in order to address ongoing concerns. After this session, you will have the opportunity to set up a session with your individual, couples or group therapist as well as access other services which may be beneficial. The triage counselor may recommend additional services such as psychiatric services, our Feel Better Fast workshops, biofeedback services as well as other services on campus or in the community. No problem is too big or too small; we are here to help you get started and look forward to serving you!
A brief consultation can be set up by stopping by our office during regular office hours or calling at 865-974-2196. However, please review this sheet so that we can arrange the appropriate type of service and appointment.
