Accessing Services

Accessing any of our services begins with a Brief Assessment appointment with a clinician to help you get started and/or figure out which services are most suitable — these typically last about 20 minutes. Students seeking our services should call our main number (865-974-2196) to arrange a Brief Assessment by videoconference or phone.

If you do not have a private space to have an appointment, let us know when you call!  We have space in the office or can help you find a space on campus.

On the day of your Brief Assessment, before the clinician sees you, you will complete information forms electronically either from our office or your computer. These will include questions on your symptoms and your reason for coming to the Center. To make the best use of the BA time, students are required to complete the initial forms prior to the initial Brief Assessment appointment.

During the BA, the student and therapist will collaborate to determine the most effective SCC service to address the student’s needs. If SCC services are not the best fit for the student’s needs, the therapist will assist the student in finding other campus resources or off-campus providers.

Parking: We have a VERY limited number of parking spaces behind our building. If you live on campus or have parked on campus already, please do not use these spots — The Hill bus route stops at the Rock, diagonal from our building, and the Trolley stops nearly at our front door! If you park behind the building, come upstairs to SCC to get a parking pass, go back down and put it in your car window, and come back up. This takes time, so if you are hoping to get a spot here, allow time for parking, paperwork, and appointment!
